The Eighth Langkawi International Dialogue (LID 2007) will be held at the Langkawi Berjaya Beach and Spa Resort from August 6 to 8, 2007 to continue Malaysia’s endeavour in promoting the “prosperthy neighbour “ and “win- win “ smart partnership objectives. About 500 participants are expected to take part in the Dialogue, including 42 Heads of State and Government who have been specially invited. Among them will be the Heads of the Government from six ASEAN member states, seven Asian countries and twenty-one African nations. The focus of this year’s Dialogue is to explore possible solutions to human capital development, capacity building and poverty. The theme selected is Poverty Eradication through Human Capital Development and Capacity Building. |
 | Besides the Heads of State and Government, top government officials, academicians, business executives, social activists, economists and youth leaders have also been invited to participate in this Dialogue. This will be the first time that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia will organise the LID in cooperation with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia (MOSTI) and assisted by Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management (CPTM). Previous hosts were MOSTI and the Prime Minister’s Department. Malaysia hosted the LIDs in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2004. The objectives over the years had been to foster the principles of Smart Partnership among nations, nationalities, government, business and social sectors. The LIDs had served as excellent platforms for sharing experiences and lessons learnt in governmental, economic and socio-political areas. Such Dialogue had also succeeded in promoting trade between Malaysia and several African countries as well as in establishing networking between Malaysian businesses and their overseas counterparts. | |
