VISIT TO ASAL (ALGERIAN SATELLITE AGENCY), 26 JANUARY, 2010

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, met Dr. Azzedine Oussedik, Director General of the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL), at his office to register Malaysia’s deep interest to have space cooperation with Algeria, particularly, on the proposed constellation of 4 satellites in the African space.  Such cooperation would also include South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, considered as pioneers in this area in the African Continent.

In pursuance to the meeting with H.E. Dr. Hamid BESSALAH, Minister of Post and Technology of Information and Communication of Algeria, on 23 December, 2009, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, visited the Cyberpark city of Sidi Abdellah, about 35 kms from Algiers on 20 January, 2010.

COURTESY CALL ON THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION OF ALGERIA

H.E. Ambassador, Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, called on H.E. Rachid HARRAOUBIA, the Minister of Higher Education on 14 January, 2010.  Among others, the Ambassador urged Algeria to send more students to study in Malaysia, have higher exchange of intellectuals between universities of both countries and the possible cooperation with regard to the development of human capital in the area of Islamic finance and banking.  Exchange of cultural programme between universities is also encouraged.

Courtesy call on the Wali (Governor) of Bejaia

During his visit to the Wilaya of Bejaia, on 10 January, 2010, among others, as special guest, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call to Mr Ali Drici, Wali of Bejaia and visit to CEVITAL, an Algeria giant private company which not only specialized on food industry but also in the business of shipping construction, assembly of automobiles, glass and housing.  With the Wali, the Ambassador called for possible cooperation in food industries, eco-tourism, cultural and student exchanges.  The Wali was indeed happy to receive the Ambassador and looked forward to having close cooperation with Malaysia.




During the visit to CEVITAL, the Ambassador accompanied by his wife, visited the biggest sugar refinery in the world with a production capacity of 45,000 tons per day.  CEVITAL has also one of the biggest refineries of cooking oil in the world.  It also imports palm oil from Malaysia to be used for cooking and margarine.  The Ambassador urged CEVITAL to import more palm oil from Malaysia in future given its unique properties compare to other oils.

SEMINAR ON 'THE ISLAMIC ECONOMY IN MALAYSIA: AN INTELLECTUAL AND ECONOMIC VIEW', ALGIERS, 9 JANUARY, 2010

H.E. Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Algeria, presenting a talk at a Seminar on the above title at the Al-Manahidj Institute in Algeria.  The Seminar was attended by a large number of academicians and researchers from famous universities in Algeria, including, from University of Algiers, University of Constantine, University of Blida and many other Institutes dealing with trade, economy and Islamic finance.

 

Besides the Ambassador, Prof. Dr. Mohamad Baba Ammi, Director of the Al-Manahidj Institute and Prof. Dr. Mohamad Hamdi, an economic researcher who is now undertaking research on the International Islamic University in Malaysia were the other speakers.

COURTESY CALL ON THE PRESIDENT OF CEVITAL, 5 JANUARY, 2010

In an effort to get acquaintance with the captains of industries in Algeria, H.E. the Ambassador Dr. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar met the President of CEVITAL, Mr. Isaad REBRAB, at his office on 5 January, 2010.  The outcome of the discussion was very useful in deepening the existing trade relations between the two countries while at the same time identifying new frontiers.  CEVITAL is the most successful companies in Algeria after SONATRACH (oil company).  With a turn-over of USD 2 billion in 2008 and having 25 companies (from food industry, automobile to shipping business) under its arm, CEVITAL could provide a useful platform for increased market access to the Algerian market in future.  At present it mainly imports palm oil from Malaysia.

 

His son and daughter had visited Malaysia under the MTCP before.  At the age of 65, the President is confident to enlarge his empire including in international markets.
