THE OPENING OF CONDOLENCE BOOKS AT THE EMBASSY 26 – 29 JANUARY 2010

In line with the advice given by Wisma Putra, the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok had opened two condolence books following the sudden and untimely demise of Almarhum Sultan Iskandar of Johor and H.E. Tun Muhamad Ghazali Shafie on 22 and 24 January 2010 respectively.

The serenity of the Embassy of Malaysia’s compound was shattered by the revving sounds of a convoy consisting of 50 superbikes and about 80 participants led by YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who was on a peace mission by traveling from Chiang Rai in the northern part of Thailand down to Danok bordering Malaysia’s Bukit Kayu Hitam.

CONDOLENCE BOOKS ON THE DEMISE OF HRH SULTAN ISKANDAR OF JOHORE AND H.E TUN MUHAMMAD GHAZALI SHAFIE
We are profoundly saddened to inform that HRH Sultan Iskandar Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Ismail, the Sultan of Johore had passed away on 22 January 2010. HRH Sultan Iskandar was the 8th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia (Supreme Ruler) from 1984 - 1989. We are further saddened with the demise of H.E. Tun Muhammad Ghazali Shafie, former Foreign Minister of Malaysia from 1981 - 1984 who passed away on 24 January 2010. In this regard, the Embassy has opened two Condolence Books which are open to the public for signing at the Embassy on 26 & 27 January 2010 from 9.00am - 12.00pm and 1.00pm - 3.30 pm. All are respectfully invited to pay their last respect to the late HRH Sultan Iskandar as well as H.E. Tun Muhammad Ghazali Shafie. Al-Fatihah.

OFFER OF SCHOLARSHIP BY SIME DARBY FOUNDATION FOR MASTER OF PUBLIC POLICY PROGRAMME AT UNIVERSITI MALAYA 2010/2011 INTAKE
The Sime Darby Foundation of Malaysia is offering two places for qualified government officials from Thailand to pursue their studies in the area of Public Policy at Master level at the Universiti Malaya (International Institute of Public Policy and Management - INPUMA) for the 2010/2011 intake which will begin in July 2010. The scholarship covers the tuition fees for the duration of the programme (18 months), airfare, accommodation, living expenses as well as book allowances. The details of the scholarship could be obtained by browsing INPUMA's website (www.impuma.org.my). Kindly take note that the closing date for applications is on 15 March 2010.

OFFER OF SCHOLARSHIP BY AL-BUKHARY FOUNDATION
The Al-Bukhary Foundation is once again offering 20 scholarships to deserving Thai students who meet its strict requirements to pursue their studies at Al-Bukhary International University (AIU) which is located in Alor Star, Kedah, Malaysia. The prospect students could choose to further their studies either in the fields of Business Studies, Social Sciences or Computer Science & Information Technology at matriculation level (pre-university) before furthering their studies at bachelor degree level upon the successful completion of the former. More details about the courses and the scholarship are available from AIU's website (www.aiu.edu.my). Preferences will be given to students who excel in their studies and those who come from poor family background. All applications should be submitted directly to the AIU in Alor Setar.

Proton has entered Thailand's auto market.
Proton through their dealer in Thailand, Phranakorn Auto Sales is offering three models, Proton Neo, Proton Gen.2 and Proton Savvy to the Thai auto market. These models especially Proton Savvy had been well received by the Thais. More recently, Proton had also launched Persona CNG, an event which was officiated by Proton Holding Berhad's Managing Director - Dato' Hj. Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamad Tahir, in a glamorous event held at the Intercontinental Hotel on 7 October 2008. A new model known as Exora is expected to enter Thai's market by end of 2009.

50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Malaysia-Thailand
Malaysia and Thailand celebrated their 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, celebration of which continued until August 2008.
