MALAYSIANS IN COLOMBO AWAIT MERDEKA CHEER

COLOMBO, August 29, 2008 : There may be tension in some parts of Sri Lanka as a result of the prolonged insurgency but for the 100 or so Malaysians in this country, they have been counting the days to celebrate Merdeka or Independence Day on Sunday. Like at many other Malaysian diplomatic missions abroad, the celebrations in Colombo are expected to be modest due to cost-cutting.

TRINCOMALEE, August 13, 2008 - His Excellency Rosli Ismail, High Commissioner for Malaysia to Sri Lanka, accompanied by Madam Mariana Alias and two other officials from the High Commission undertook a working visit to Kinniya, Trincomalee from 13 to 14 August 2008 and visited the Malaysian Tsunami Housing Project and also Sumayyah Arabic Ladies College’s hostel funded by the Government of Malaysia.

AWARD AND CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE ‘MALAY LANGUAGE CLASS FOR BEGINNERS’ FOR SRI LANKA MALAY COMMUNITY, RUMAH MALAYSIA, COLOMBO, 16 AUGUST 2008

COLOMBO, August 16, 2008 : The Award and Closing Ceremony of the ‘Malay Language Class for Beginners’ for Sri Lanka’s Malay Community organised by the High Commission of Malaysia in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Malay Confederation was successfully held at Rumah Malaysia on 16 August 2008. The course commenced from 5th April to 29th June 2008 and was conducted at the Chancery of the High Commission of Malaysia.

COLOMBO, August 16, 2008 – His Excellency Rosli Ismail, the High Commissioner of Malaysia officially launched the “Malay Resource Centre”  at the Malay Padang Complex of the Colombo Malay Cricket Club in Colombo. The event was held at the sidelines of the ‘Malay Rally 2008’ jointly organized by Sri Lanka Malay Association and the Colombo Malay Cricket.

WITHDRAWAL OF 'VISA ON ARRIVAL' FACILITIES FOR SRI LANKAN NATIONALS
The Government of Malaysia has recently decided to withdraw the ‘Visa on Arrival’ facilities for Sri Lankan nationals with effect from 01 August 2008. However, the Government of Malaysia has recently announced the Sri Lankan nationals can obtain the ‘Multiple Entry’ visa up to one (1) year mainly for business purposes only to Malaysia.
