The Malaysian Community and the High Commission of Malaysia in the UK

are organising the Merdeka Carnival 2009.

 

In conjunction with the Merdeka Carnival 2009,

we are looking for Malaysian performers

 - musicians, comedians and group acts - to take part in the stage show.

 

Closing Date for Entry is Friday 17 July 2009

 

Merdeka Day Carnival 2009 will be held at

Conferment of Datukship on Professor Sir Colin Campbell.

Professor Sir Colin Campbell, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, was bestowed the Federal Award, Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN), by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah. The Award carries the title “Datuk”.


At an Investiture ceremony held on 1 June 2009 at the University of Nottingham, His Excellency Datuk Abd. Aziz Mohammed, High Commissioner of Malaysia, conferred the award to Y.Bhg. Professor Sir Datuk Colin Campbell on behalf of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Time 10.00am – 6.00pm

The event will begin at 10.00am with the flag raising ceremony.

The carnival will showcase the cultural and social diversity of Malaysia.

There will be Malaysian cuisine, games and performances.

Please invite your friends and family to the Merdeka Day Carnival.

NOTICE TO ALL MALAYSIAN RESIDENTS/VISITORS IN THE UK ON THE A(H1N1) FLU - (SWINE FLU)

SWINE FLU PRECAUTION
Due to the global SWINE FLU (renamed H1N1 influenza A) situation, All Malaysians in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland are advised to take necessary pre-caution to protect themselves from the disease. Please be alert to all advisories concerning swine flu (H1N1 influenza A) commissioned by the World Health Organisation and as well as the UK Department of Health.

VISA FREE STATUS & RESPECTING UK IMMIGRATION LAWS
The UK Government announced on Monday 9 February 2009 that they have decided not to introduce visa requirement for Malaysian passport holders at this time. However, should circumstances warrant it, they will re-examine the situation and take prompt action. Malaysians who would like to work and stay in the UK are advised to apply through the proper channel or contact the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur for further details (http://ukinmalaysia.fco.gov.uk) WE URGE ALL MALAYSIANS IN THE UK TO RESPECT, OBSERVE AND NOT TO VIOLATE UK IMMIGRATION LAWS

TRAVEL ADVISORY
Malaysian citizens who plan to travel abroad should take extra precautionary measures. Most importantly, they must be alert and fully aware of all the items in their baggage. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been notified that there are a number of international criminal syndicates who are targeting Malaysians to be involved in their criminal activities. Those wishing to take up job offers overseas should first verify the status and the offer of the employer.
