Brief History

Malaysia established diplomatic relations with Cambodia soon after Malaysia’s independence on 31 August 1957.  Between 1969 to 1975 Malaysia maintained diplomatic presence in Cambodia at the level of Charge d’Affaires, with its Ambassador in Beijing concurrently accredited to Phnom Penh.  The Embassy of Malaysia was closed in 1979.  It was re-opened on 26 November 1991 following the signing of the Paris Peace Accord on 23 October 1991.

The first Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia was H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Deva Mohd Ridzam.  Subsequent Heads of Mission were H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Md. Kamal Ismaun, H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Ahmad Anuar Abdul Hamid and H.E. Ambassador Datin Paduka Melanie Leong.  The current Ambassador is Dato’ Adnan Haji Othman and he has been in Cambodia since 23 December 2005.
