Brunei Chapter of University of Malaya alumni launched

Thursday, June 11, 2009 - The University of Malaya
successfully launched the Brunei Chapter of its alumni yesterday following the
recent approval of the association by the Brunei Registrar of Societies. In a launching ceremony held at the Royal Berkshire Hall at Jerudong Royal Polo
and Riding Club yesterday evening, the association received formal recognition
as the third overseas country to establish the university's alumni chapter.
Speaking on behalf of the university alumni, Professor Datuk Dr Ghauth Jasmon,
the vice-chancellor of University of Malaya, said that with the foundation of
the chapter here in Brunei, members will hopefully be able to disseminate and
promote the university as one of Asia's quality higher educational institutions
as well as be a part of the university's development and progress.

Malaysians celebrate Agong's birthday

The Malaysian community in Brunei celebrated the birthday of
the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan
Agong XIII Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud
Al-Muktafi Billah Shah at a reception held at the Malaysian High Commission
yesterday evening. Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari attended the
reception as guest of honour accompanied with some 300 Malaysians living and
working in the Sultanate.

Commissioner and officials from Negeri Sembilan.

The Seventh Technical Meeting on Frequent Traveller Card (FTC) Project, Malaysia - Brunei

The Seventh Technical Meeting on Frequent Traveller Card
(FTC) Project meeting between Brunei and Malaysia agreed to the extension of
the FTC facility to two other border control posts at Tedungan (Sarawak) and
Kuala Lurah (Brunei) and Pandaruan (Sarawak) and Puni (Brunei).
The meeting which was held on 16 May 2009, was to give both countries the
opportunity to share common interests and exchange views on the implementation
of the FTC project. The Malaysian delegation was headed by Mr. Abdul Rahim
Othman, Director General of Immigration accompanied by officials from the Ministry
of Home Affairs, Registration Department.

Sarawak & Brunei to study feasibility of sharing power

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday between the
Sarawak Energy Berhad and Department of Electrical Services, Brunei marking
another significant milestone towards the realisation of the Asean Power Grid
in the Asean region, particularly the Brunei- Sarawak sector.
The signing of the MoU signifies the commitment of both countries in
exploring the feasibility of developing interconnected power systems for energy
exchange or power transactions.

YAB Prime Minister’s working visit to Brunei

Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Mohd Najib bin Hj Tun
Abdul Razak and Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor made an introductory visit to Brunei
from 29 -30 April 2009. The arrival of
the new Prime Minister of Malaysia was greeted with a static display mounted by
the Royal Brunei Armed Forces at the Brunei International Airport.
