INTRADE MALAYSIA 2008 EXPECTS TO GENERATE US$1 BLN IN SALES
KUALA
LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- Intrade Malaysia 2008 is expected to
generate sales of over US$1 billion (US$1 = RM3.15), said Malaysia
External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) chief executive officer,
Datuk Noharuddin Nordin.
He said the target could be achieved with the expected increase in the number of exhibitors this year.
"The number is set to increase to 500 from 300 last year. Foreign
exhibitors are expected to account for 20 percent of the exhibitors.
"The exhibition has received encouraging response from both local and
foreign companies as well as trade promotion agencies," he told a media
briefing here today.
The event, organised by Matrade, will be held from Nov 12-15 at the
Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre. It is expected to attract
over 15,000 visitors.
Noharuddin said the expected encouraging response was attributable to
the impressive results reported by the exhibitors and companies
participating at the business-matching sessions with international
buyers during the inaugural Intrade Malaysia 2007 held in November last
year.
Intrade Malaysia 2007 raked in total sales of US988.571 million for
more than 1,300 Malaysian companies. They recorded on-the-spot sales of
US$137.416 million while sales under negotiations were valued at
US851.154 million.
The top five buying nations were the United Arab Emirates, with deals
worth RM1.06 billion, Kazakhstan (RM598.5 million), UK (RM433.8
million), Australia (RM385.3 million) and Nigeria (RM156.3 million).
It attracted the participation of exhibitors from 25 countries, among
them from South Korea, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Singapore and South
Africa.
He said following this positive response from both exhibitors and
visitors, Matrade has decided to continue to organise the exhibition as
a vehicle to bring producers, sellers and buyers from the region and
beyond, together, to establish new business contacts.
"This exhibition will provide enormous opportunities for companies to
forge business partnership and collaborations for expansion not only
into the Malaysian market but also the regional and global markets," he
said.
Noharuddin said the exhibition, with the theme, "Optimising Global
Opportunities", was aimed at providing a suitable platform not only for
Malaysian but also foreign companies to expand their businesses and
access new markets.
"Matrade is committed to making Intrade Malaysia a leading
international trade fair in Association of South-East Asian Nations and
programmes and activities would be launched to promote the event to
ensure that the showcase remains an effective platform for expanding
business opportunities," he said.
Noharuddin said Intrade Malaysia, as a general international trade
fair, offered a platform to exhibit a wide range of products and
services from agro-based products, auto parts and accessories, building
materials, rubber-based products, chemical and chemical based products
to services.
He said in conjunction with exhibition, Matrade would also organise the
Incoming Buying Mission (IBM) where more than 1,000 international
buyers would be hosted by Matrade to attend the exhibition and attend
pre-arranged business meetings.
"Last year, a total of 1,354 Malaysian companies participated in the
9,108 one-on-one business matching sessions held over two days with
more than 800 international buyers from 58 countries," he said.
He said another major event would be the KL International Trade Forum 2008 (KLITH 2008) scheduled on Nov 13.
"For this year's forum, Matrade will be inviting chief executive
officers of companies in various industries and services sectors that
have successfully internationalised their businesses to share their
knowledge and experiences," he said.
