H.E. Ambassador Mohamad Sadik Kethergany presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Sunday, 24 January 2010 at the Presidential Palace.  During the audience, President Ahmadinejad warmly welcomed Amb. Sadik and expressed his desire to expand the already close ties between the two countries.  Amb. Sadik said that the both countries could further exploit the full potential of the economic and cultural relations.

H.E. Amb. Mohamad Sadik bin Kethergany paid a courtesy call on H.E. Manouchehr Mottaki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the latter’s office on Saturday, 9 January 2009.  FM Mottaki warmly welcomed Amb. Sadik and wished him success during his tour of duty in Iran.  FM Mottaki also gave his undertaking that his Ministry would give the full support and cooperation to ensure the smooth and effective running of the Embassy of Malaysia in Tehran.  FM Mottaki expressed his happiness to see the close ties between Malaysia and Iran and remain desirous to see greater expansion in the relations.  Amb. Sadik informed FM Mottaki that he was very pleased by the warm welcome that was accorded to him by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the friendly reception that he had thus far received from the Iranian people in general.  He said he would strive towards enhancing further the bilateral relations between the two countries.

H.E. Amb. Mohd. Sadik attended a seminar at Shiraz on 3 January 2010 hosted by Mahan Air, a private airline company based in Iran. The seminar was held to commemorate the launching of Mahan Air inaugural direct flight to Malaysia on 27 January 2010. Also present was Tuan Razali Tuan Omar, the Managing Director of Tourism Malaysia Dubai. More than 60 travel agencies and tour operators mainly based in Shiraz attended the seminar. With this new addition, there will now be 5 direct flights from Iran to Malaysia – 4 flights operated by Iran Air from Tehran and 1 flight by Mahan Air from Shiraz.

In his brief remarks, Amb. Mohd. Sadik congratulated Mahan Air for choosing Malaysia as its new international destination. According to him, the flight from Shiraz would benefit not only residents in Shiraz but also from surrounding provinces who wish to visit Malaysia. With the growing interest among Iranians and students to visit and study in Malaysia respectively, he believes the alternative route from Shiraz would certainly boost people-to-people exchanges that would help to enhance better understanding and closer ties between Malaysia and Iran.
