At
the invitation of the United States of
America, Malaysia, led by the Honourable Dato’ Seri Syed
Hamid Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is currently participating in the
on-going Annapolis Conference, held from 26 to 27 November 2007 in Annapolis, Maryland.
The
Annapolis Conference is aimed to attain
a broad international support for the Israeli and Palestinian leaders’ efforts
to find a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Conference
is intended to act as a launching point for negotiations leading to the
establishment of a Palestinian state and the realization of a lasting peaceful
solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as well as peace in the region.
Other parties participating in the
on-going Conference include Members of the Quartet, Members of the Arab League
Follow-Up Committee, the G-8, Permanent Members of the UN Security Council and
other key international players.
