LAUNCH OF BALLISTIC MISSILES BY THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA ON 5 SEPTEMBER 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAUNCH OF BALLISTIC MISSILES BY THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA ON 5 SEPTEMBER 2016

Malaysia condemns the launching of the ballistic missiles by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 5 September 2016. The launch of these missiles is another flagrant violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions and a serious setback to the global disarmament and non-proliferation regime.

Malaysia regrets this latest incident which constitutes a grave threat to regional and global peace and security. Such actions by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea over the past few years only serve to further increase regional tension and hinder the prospects for lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and the world in general.

Malaysia urges the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to desist from conducting further launches and to comply fully with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, with a view to maintaining regional and international peace and security.
