CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION IN PARIS – 4 FEBRUARY 2017
More than 150 Malaysians in Paris together with their families and local friends braved the cold in Paris to attend a warm luncheon on Saturday, 4 February 2017 to celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY). The chilly winter did not prevent the ladies from coming in their elegant cheongsam while some men were brave enough to wear classy changshan in the cold. The annual CNY luncheon organized by the Malaysian Association in France (MAF) was held at Le President Restaurant located at the heart of Belleville, Paris.
The event graced by the Malaysian Ambassador to France, H.E. Datuk Ibrahim Abdullah, was also attended by Mme Jeanne d'Hauteserre, Mayor of the 8th arrondissement and Monsieur JP Le Coq, Mayor of the 6th arrondissement. In his speech, H.E. Datuk Ibrahim said that the celebration of Malaysian festivities albeit thousand miles away, showcased the uniqueness of the multicultural society and reflected the true Malaysia way of life where the diversity is embraced and as a source of strength. He lauded the good work by MAF in preserving the solidarity and strengthening camaraderie among Malaysians in France.
While enjoying a wide selection of Chinese delicacies, guests were serenated by live recital of Chinese musical instruments from duo Huang & Huang and mesmerizing performance by saxophonist Syazwan and guitarist Jun Win. Guests went oohhss and aahhss by the wushu demonstration and Malaysian martial arts silat by Culture Silat Association. Guests also enjoyed “yu sang” tossing ceremony led by President MAF. In keeping with tradition, tombola draw was held and delectable homemade durian cake was served.
The CNY celebration is one of the main annual festive celebrations organized by MAF. It is also now one of the popular events amongst the Malaysians in Paris and France at large. It was indeed a big “family gathering” bringing Malaysians together!
