APPOINTMENT OF NEW HEADS OF MISSION OF MALAYSIA

 

Eight (8) new Heads of Mission of Malaysia received their Letters of Credence from His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah in a ceremony held at Istana Negara on Thursday, 18 July 2019. The Ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah. The new Heads of Mission are:-

 

YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to the People’s Republic of China

 

Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin started his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. He was the Deputy Secretary General (Bilateral Affairs) since 2017 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the People’s Republic of China.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (Economics), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 1995 to 1996 prior to his first posting as Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland from 1996 to 2001. He returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to serve as Assistant Secretary (Economics) from 2001 to 2002 and as Principal Assistant Secretary (Economics) from 2002 to 2006.

 

Between 2006 and 2010, Raja Dato’ Nushirwan served as Counsellor and subsequently as Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations (UN) in New York, before his appointment as Malaysia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, New York. Raja Dato’ Nushirwan also held the position of Deputy Director General of ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat from 2010 to 2014. He also served as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Islamic Republic of Iran from 2014 to 2017.

 

Dato’ Nor’Aini Abd Hamid

High Commissioner-Designate of Malaysia to Canada

 

Dato’ Nor’Aini Abd Hamid started her career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. She was the Deputy Secretary General (Management Services) since June 2018 prior to her appointment as the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada.

 

She previously served as Assistant Secretary (Finance) and Assistant Secretary (Southeast Asia and South Pacific), Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1995 and from 1996 to 1997, respectively, prior to her first posting as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Germany from 1997 to 2001. Upon completion of her first posting, she returned as Assistant Secretary (Commonwealth) from 2001 to 2002 and before being designated as Principal Assistant Secretary (East and South Asia) from 2002 to 2005.

 

Dato’ Nor’Aini also served as the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C., United States of America from 2008 to 2011 and Chief of Inspectorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2014 before her appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Uzbekistan in 2014. She had also served as Director General of ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat in 2018.

 

Ambassador Norman Muhamad

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to the Republic of the Philippines

 

Ambassador Norman Muhamad started his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992. He was the Undersecretary (OIC and Regional Cooperation) since 2018 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of the Philippines.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (America), Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995 prior to his first posting as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 1995 to 1998. He later served as Assistant Director (ASEAN) from 1998 to 2001 and as Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok, Thailand from 2001 to 2005.

 

Ambassador Norman had also served as Principal Assistant Secretary (Regional Cooperation, Social and Culture) from 2005 to 2008; Consul General of Malaysia in Los Angeles, United States of America from 2009 to 2011; and Deputy Director General of ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat from 2011 to 2014.

 

He was appointed as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Turkmenistan in 2014. He later served as Undersecretary (International Cooperation & Development) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in early 2018. Ambassador Norman was also the Head of Leadership, Negotiation and Public Diplomacy Centre and Head of Political Studies and Economic Diplomacy at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations from 2016 to early 2018.

 

Ambassador Mohd Tarid Sufian

Ambassador-Designate Malaysia to the United Arab Emirates

 

Ambassador Mohd Tarid Sufian started his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. He was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Algeria since 2014 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the United Arab Emirates.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (Maritime), Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 1997 prior to his first posting as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, Philippines from 1997 to 2001. Between 2001 and 2004, he served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Khartoum, Sudan.

 

Ambassador Mohd Tarid had also served as Principal Assistant Secretary (Europe and Central Asia) from 2004 to 2008; Undersecretary (Policy and Strategy Planning) from 2010 to 2011; and Deputy Director General of Implementation and Coordination Department from 2011 to 2014.

 

Mr. Zakaria Nasir

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to Ireland

 

Mr. Zakaria Nasir started his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. He was the Head of the Competency Enhancement Centre at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations since 2016 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Ireland.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (East Europe), Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1996 and Assistant Director (ASEAN) from 1996 to 1998 prior to his first posting as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok, Thailand from 1998 to 2001. Between 2001 and 2004, he served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Sana’a, Yemen.

 

Mr. Zakaria had also served as Director at the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism from 2004 to 2005 and as Principal Assistant Secretary (North Africa) from 2005 to 2006. In 2008, he was appointed as the Undersecretary (2008 International Conference Steering Committee) and Undersecretary (Policy and Strategic Planning). He also served as Minister at the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, Philippines from 2010 to 2013 and as Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission of Malaysia in London, United Kingdom from 2013 to 2016.

 

Dato’ Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

 

Dato’ Shariffah Norhana Syed Mustaffa started her career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. She was the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN in Jakarta, Indonesia since 2016 prior to her appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

 

She previously served as Assistant Secretary (Southeast Asia and Pacific), Ministry of Foreign Affairs  from 1996 to 2001 prior to her first posting as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Vienna, Austria from 2001 to 2005. She was the Principal Assistant Secretary (Multilateral Politics) between 2008 and 2009.

 

Dato’ Shariffah Norhana had also served as Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Rome, Italy from 2009 to 2013 and as Deputy Director General of ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat from 2013 to 2016.

 

Dato’ Abd Razak Abdul Wahab

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

 

Dato’ Abd Razak Abdul Wahab started his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995. He was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Turkey since 2016 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (Information) and Assistant Secretary (Southeast Asia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1995 and 1998 prior to his first posting as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo, Egypt from 1998 to 2002. He returned to the Ministry to serve as Assistant Secretary (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) in 2002 before being appointed as Special Officer to the Director General of Public Service in 2002.

 

Dato’ Abd Razak had also served as Principal Assistant Secretary (Administration); Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Stockholm; Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow; and Principal Assistant Secretary (Protocol) between 2005 and 2014. He was appointed as the Consul General of Malaysia in New York in mid-2014.

 

Mr. Abdullah Zawawi Tahir

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to Romania

 

Mr. Abdullah Zawawi Tahir started his career as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. He was the Deputy Chief of Protocol since 2016 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Romania.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (Protocol) and Assistant Secretary (Southeast Asia and South Pacific), Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 1999 prior to his first posting as Second Secretary at the High Commission of Malaysia in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 1999 to 2002. He later served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 2002 to 2005.

 

He also served as Principal Assistant Secretary (Southeast Asia and South Pacific) from 2005 to 2006; Head of Internal Audit from 2006 to 2008 and Principal Assistant Secretary (Finance & Account) from 2008 to 2010. He was also the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul, South Korea in 2010 and Consul General of Malaysia in Davao City, Philippines in 2012.
