APPOINTMENT OF NEW HEADS OF MISSION OF MALAYSIA

 

Three new Heads of Mission of Malaysia received their Letters of Credence from His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah in a ceremony held at Istana Negara on Thursday, 21 March 2019. The Ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Secretary-General of Bilateral Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, YM Raja Dato' Nushirwan Zainal Abidin. The new Heads of Mission are:-

 

 

Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany

High Commissioner-Designate of Malaysia to the United Kingdom

 

Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany started his career as Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989. He was the Director General at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) since 2017 prior to his appointment as the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (Administration) from 1989 until 1992, Assistant Secretary (Economy) from 1992 until 1994 and Second Secretary at the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra, Australia from 1994 until 1996.

 

He then served as Assistant Secretary (East Europe) from 1996 until 1997, Chargé d'Affaires at the High Commission of Malaysia in Accra, Ghana from 1997 until 1999, Assistant Secretary (Policy Planning) from 1999 until 2000 and Principal Assistant Secretary (East Europe) from 2001 until 2004.

 

Datuk Mohamad Sadik had also served as the Consul General at the Consulate General of Malaysia in New York, United States of America from 2004 until 2008 and Undersecretary (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam) from 2008 until 2009. He was appointed as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2009 and Ambassador of Malaysia to Hungary in 2014.

 

 

Ambassador Zainal Abidin Bakar

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to the Republic of Indonesia

 

Ambassador Zainal Abidin Bakar started his career as Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988. He was the Ambassador of Malaysia to Spain since 2017 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Indonesia.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (Southeast Asia) from 1988 until 1990, Assistant Secretary (America) from 1991 until 1993, First Secretary at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo, Japan from 1993 until 1996 and Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Hanoi, Viet Nam from 1996 until 1999.

 

He then served as Principal Assistant Secretary (Information) from 1999 until 2002, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Brussels, Belgium from 2002 until 2006, Undersecretary (Information) from 2006 until 2007 and Undersecretary (East Asia) from 2007 until 2009.

 

Ambassador Zainal Abidin was appointed as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Czech Republic in 2009, Deputy Director General of the Department of Information and Public Diplomacy in 2013 and Undersecretary (OIC, D8, Special Organizations and South-South Cooperation) from end of 2013 until 2017.

 

 

Mr. Westmoreland Edward Palon

Ambassador-Designate of Malaysia to Holy See

 

Mr. Westmoreland Edward Palon started his career as Administrative and Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. He was the Consul General at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Melbourne, Australia since 2015 prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Holy See.

 

He previously served as Assistant Secretary (West Europe) from 1996 until 1999, Assistant Secretary (Information) from 1999 until 2000 and Second Secretary at the High Commission of Malaysia in the Republic of Singapore from 2000 until 2004.

 

Mr. Westmoreland later served as First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Malaysia in the United Nations in New York, United States of America from 2004 until 2007 and Principal Assistant Secretary (America) from 2007 until 2010. He had also served as Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Santiago, Chile from 2010 until 2013 and Director at the ASEAN-Malaysia National Secretariat from 2013 until 2015.
