MALAYSIA TO HOST THE COMMONWEALTH YOUTH DIALOGUE CONFERENCE

2 – 5 APRIL 2019, KUALA LUMPUR

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Unit and the Royal Commonwealth Society will be hosting the “Commonwealth Youth Dialogue Conference: Youth Summit on International Peace and Security & Building Community Resilience from the Ground Up” from 2 to 5 April 2019 in Kuala Lumpur.

 

The conference will be officiated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah and will feature local and international speakers. The conference will be attended by 60 participants comprising youths from Bangladesh; Brunei Darussalam; India; Malaysia; Pakistan; Singapore; and Sri Lanka.

 

The overarching theme of the conference is the prevention of violent extremism with a central focus on youths. Among the core activities during the conference are interactive workshops on community cohesion, leadership and preventing violent extremism. Participants will also take part in a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) simulation where participants are expected to debate on the issue of international peace and security.

 

Being selected as host for this conference is testimony that Malaysia’s contribution to the global fight against terrorism and the threats of terrorism is recognised not only in the Commonwealth but also globally. As a regional member of the Steering Group of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s CVE Unit, Malaysia is committed to share its expertise and experience with the Commonwealth and other international partners in combating terrorism and countering violent extremism.
