MORANDI BRIDGE COLLAPSE IN GENOA, ITALY

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that that there have been no reports ofMalaysians involved in the bridge collapse in Genoa, Italy.

 

On 14 August 2018, a section of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa, Italy collapsed causing vehicles to plunge around 50 meters off the bridge. The local government confirmed that the periodic maintenance work undertaken on the bridge’s foundation coupled with torrential rainfalls, could be the cause of the collapse of the bridge that links Italy and France. The death toll now stood at 35 people with 10 more feared missing.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of Malaysia in Rome will continue to monitor the incident  particularly on the involvement of Malaysians, if any.
