OFFICIAL VISIT OF DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER OF WOMEN, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OF MALAYSIA
DATO’ SERI DR. WAN AZIZAH WAN ISMAIL,
TO THE STATE OF QATAR FROM 25-27 NOVEMBER 2018
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Women, Family and Community Development of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will undertake an official visit to the State of Qatar from 25-27 November 2018. Deputy Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Marzuki Haji Yahya; Deputy Minister of Finance, Dato’ Ir. Amiruddin Hamzah; and senior government officials.
The visit will provide an opportunity for Deputy Prime Minister to discuss ways and means to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as well as exchange views on various issues that are of mutual concern and common interests.
Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to have an audience with Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and separate meetings with Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah; Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Yousef bin Mohammed Al Othman Fakhro; and Minister of Public Health, Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister will deliver a speech at Qatar University and attend a Roundtable Meeting with Captains of Industry from various economic sectors, as well as make a visit to the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Deputy Prime Minister will meet the Malaysian diaspora on 26 November 2018.
Qatar is an important economic partner for Malaysia. In 2017, total trade with Qatar increased by 21.7% to RM2.8 billion from RM2.3 billion in the preceding year. The top five major exports to Qatar in 2017 were processed food; electrical and electronic products; machinery, equipment and parts; manufactures of metal; and palm oil and palm-based agriculture products. Meanwhile, the main imports from Qatar were chemicals and chemical products, crude petroleum, petroleum products, manufactures of metal, and machinery, equipment and parts.
