OFFICIAL VISIT OF MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF MALAYSIA,
DATO’ SAIFUDDIN ABDULLAH TO THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah will make an Official Visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from 16 – 17 May 2019. This will be his first visit to Vietnam since assuming the post of Foreign Minister on 2 July 2018.
During the visit, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Pham Binh Minh. Both sides are expected to discuss a wide-ranging bilateral issues as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. The Foreign Minister is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
The visit will also provide an opportunity for Malaysia and Vietnam to reinforce the commitment in strengthening the cooperation under the Framework of the Strategic Partnership, which both countries signed in August 2015.
The trade and investment relations between Malaysia and Vietnam are substantial with a two way trade valued at USD 13.31 billion in 2018, making Malaysia the 7th largest trading partner for Vietnam. Meanwhile, Malaysia is the 12th largest source of FDI for Vietnam with a total investment of USD 7.04 billion since 2013.
