OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER OF WOMEN, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DATO’ SERI DR WAN AZIZAH DR WAN ISMAIL

TO NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail will undertake an Official Visit to Negara Brunei Darussalam from 26 to 27 February 2019. The visit is part of Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah’s introductory visits to ASEAN countries after being sworn in as the 12th Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia on 21 May 2018.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Marzuki Yahya and senior government officials.

 

Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah is scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saiduddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office. Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah will also have an audience with Her Majesty Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam at the invitation of Her Majesty. This will be followed by a bilateral meeting with her counterpart, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Aminuddin Ihsan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The programme also include visit to Pusat Ehsan Negara Brunei Darussalam, Pusat Pengurusan Bencana Kebangsaan Brunei Darussalam and meeting with Brunei Darussalam investors and businessmen. The Deputy Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet Malaysian diaspora in Brunei Darussalam.

 

The visit will reaffirm Malaysia’s strong commitment to further enhance bilateral relations and cooperation with Brunei Darussalam in various areas of mutual interest including trade and investments, development, women empowerment, and effective natural disaster management.

 

Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam enjoy 35 years of diplomatic ties. As close neighbours and partners in ASEAN, both countries have strong cooperation in multiple sectors including trade and investment. Malaysia is a major investor in Brunei from the ASEAN region, with FDI from Malaysia totalling USD486.74 million in 2017 or nearly 90.9% of total FDI (USD535.27 million) from fellow ASEAN Member States into Brunei. Brunei Darussalam is Malaysia’s 7th largest trade partner in the ASEAN region with USD981.2 million in total trade in 2018.
