OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER,

YAB TUN DR MAHATHIR BIN MOHAMAD TO THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE,

12 – 13 NOVEMBER 2018

 

The Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will undertake an Official Visit to the Republic of Singapore from 12 -13 November 2018, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong.

 

The visit is part of YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s high-level introductory visits to ASEAN countries after being sworn in as the 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia. YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be accompanied by YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali; Foreign Minister YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah; Minister of Economic Affairs, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office as well as Wisma Putra.

 

YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be meeting Singaporean leaders including President Halimah Yacob; Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. The programme of the visit will also include engagement with the Malaysian diaspora in Singapore.

 

The visit will provide the opportunity for both sides to exchange views on an array of bilateral, regional and international issues of concern; and explore prospects for further strengthening cooperation for mutual interest.

 

Malaysia and Singapore enjoy 53 years of diplomatic ties and have maintained good relations as closest neighbours, as well as partners in ASEAN. Both countries have strong cooperation in multiple sectors including trade and investment. Singapore is Malaysia’s second largest trading partner after China and total bilateral trade between the two countries in 2017 was    RM 220.88 billion (USD53.18 billion), representing 12.9% of Malaysia’s global trade.
