OPEN RECRUITMENT FOR THE POSITION OF MALAYSIA'S REPRESENTATIVE TO ASEAN INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS (AICHR)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is extending the deadline for submission of applications for the position of the Malaysia’s representative to ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) from today until 15 November 2018 due to overwhelming applications received upon the expiry of the deadline. This is to ensure a larger pool of candidates of human rights experts are given the opportunity to be considered for the position.
The Ministry will announce the names of the shortlisted candidates for public comments on the suitability of the candidate to champion Malaysia’s interest in AICHR, tentatively in the final week of November 2018. There will be an independent Selection Committee that will be established to assess and evaluate the applications, and interview the shortlisted candidates.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would also like to inform that the position of Malaysia’s representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) for the term 2019-2021 has been, for the first time since 2009, opened to all Malaysian citizens to apply from 1 October to 14 October 2018. Malaysia now joins the Republic of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Thailand on open recruitment for the said position.
The Ministry would like to encourage the participation of all walks of society; from the civil societies, non-governmental organisation, academicians and the general public to ensure a wider participation by all levels and background.
The open recruitment for the position of Malaysia’s Representative to AICHR is conducted in line with the Government’s manifesto for a clear, transparent, merit-based, and participatory selection and appointment process.
