RECOVERY OF A MALAYSIAN KIDNAP VICTIM IN MINDANAO,

THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES

 

On 4 April 2019, Mr. Jari bin Abdullah, who was kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf Group on 6 December 2018, was found by the Armed Forces of the Republic of the Philippines (AFP) during an encounter between the AFP and the Abu Sayyaf Group in Banguigui Town, Simisa Island, Sulu, Philippines.

 

Mr. Jari bin Abdullah is currently being treated in a medical facility in Mindanao due to his injuries.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao, Mindanao and the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila is in close contact with the local authorities for the latest updates on the situation and is currently monitoring the condition of Mr. Jari bin Abdullah.

 

The Foreign Minister has instructed the Deputy Secretary General (Bilateral Affairs) to meet with the leaders of Sabah to appraise the Sabah State Government on the latest developments related to the kidnap victim.
