UPDATE ON THE CHRISTCHURCH SHOOTING INCIDENT
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform that as of 9.00 pm local time today (4.00 pm Malaysian time), the New Zealand Police announced that “post mortem examinations have been completed on all 50 victims” and “12 victims have been identified to the satisfaction of the Coroner and six of those identified victims have been returned to their families”.
The Ministry would like to advise the media and the public not to make any speculations or spread rumours on the status of the missing Malaysian. The New Zealand Police informed that there is a clear process on the release of individual names to the public. Once the family has been notified, the police will convey the information to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) of New Zealand. MFAT will then convey the information to the relevant High Commissions/ Embassies. The information will be released publicly by the New Zealand Police through its media system.
The Ministry would like to seek the understanding of the media and the public to respect the feelings of the victims and their families during this trying time. Rest assured, the Government of Malaysia is doing its best to assist the victims and their families.
