WORKING VISIT BY YAB TUN DR. MAHATHIR MOHAMAD

PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA TO JAPAN

6 – 9 AUGUST 2018

 

YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia will be undertaking a Working Visit to Fukuoka and Oita, Japan from 6 to 9 August 2018. YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by YABhg Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, YB Minister of Education and YB Minister of Transport, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

During the visit, YAB Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver his keynote address at the Japan Future Leaders School and Kyushu Asian Institute of Leadership. YAB Prime Minister will also be meeting with Mr. Hiroto Izumi, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan as well as visit the Kyushu Railway Company Safety Creation Centre and Groovenauts Inc. Technology Park in Fukuoka and the Ritusmeikan Asia Pacific University in Oita.

 

The visit will allow YAB Prime Minister to meet and have meaningful discussion with Japanese young leaders. It will also allow Malaysia to enhance its bilateral cooperation with Japan, especially in the fields of education, technology and transportation.

 

Malaysia and Japan continue to maintain close bilateral relation in many areas of cooperation. In 2017, the total bilateral trade between the two countries was recorded at RM138.5 billion (USD 32.22 billion), an increase of 14.7% as compared to 2016. Japan is Malaysia’s 4th largest trading partner after China, Singapore and the United States.
