WORKING VISIT OF
THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA
YAB DATO’ SERI DR. WAN AZIZAH WAN ISMAIL
TO BELGIUM AND TO THE 12TH ASIA-EUROPE MEETING (ASEM) SUMMIT

The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will lead Malaysia’s delegation to the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit (12th ASEM Summit), which will be held in Brussels, Belgium from 18-19 October 2018.
YAB Deputy Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
With the theme “Global Partners for Global Challenges”, ASEM leaders will deliberate on key regional and international issues of mutual concern, as well as discuss on measures that could be undertaken to strengthen the existing partnership between Asia and Europe.
YAB Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver Malaysia’s statement at the Second Plenary Session with the theme “Reinforcing the Multilateral System: Advancing the ASEM Partnership on Global Challenges”.
The 12th ASEM Summit is expected to adopt the Chair’s Statement which will outline ASEM’s commitment and aspiration for closer cooperation among Member Partners under the three pillars of ASEM: the political, economic and socio-cultural pillars.
In addition, YAB Deputy Prime Minister will take the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Security and Home Affairs of Belgium, H.E. Jan Jambon to discuss current bilateral and multilateral issues of common interest.
Meanwhile, YB Minister of Foreign Affairs will also be meeting his counterpart, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belgium, H.E. Didier Reynders to discuss issues of mutual concern and interests. YB Foreign Minister is also scheduled to deliver a remark at a forum organised by the European Institute for Asian Studies on 17 October 2018.
