WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, DATO' SAIFUDDIN ABDULLAH
TO THE HIGH-LEVEL SEGMENT OF THE 40TH REGULAR SESSION OF
THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah will undertake a working visit to Geneva, Switzerland, on 26-27 February 2019 to attend the High-Level Segment of the 40th Regular Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. The Foreign Minister will participate and deliver statements at the High-Level Segment of the Human Rights Council Session, the High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen, and the High-Level Segment of the Conference on Disarmament.
The UN Human Rights Council is the principal intergovernmental body within the United Nations (UN) system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights. During the High-Level Segment of the Human Rights Council, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will expound on the Government’s policy on the protection and promotion of human rights in Malaysia. Malaysia will also pledge US$100,000 to address the humanitarian needs of the people of Yemen during the High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen.
Apart from bilateral meetings, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will also meet the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, visit the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as well as engage with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Malaysians in Geneva.
