WORKING VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA
TUN DR. MAHATHIR MOHAMAD
TO BANGKOK, THAILAND, 15 AND 16 DECEMBER 2018
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, will be undertaking a Working Visit to Bangkok, Thailand on 15 and 16 December 2018 to receive an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Arts in the Field of Social Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Politics conferred by the Rangsit University of Thailand. The Prime Minister and spouse, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, and other government officials.
The conferment of the Doctorate Degree by Rangsit University is a recognition of Prime Minister’s leadership and valuable contributions particularly in safeguarding the interests of Malaysia and that of other developing countries which have made significant impact to the society at large.
The Degree will be conferred by the President of Rangsit University, Dr. Arthit Ourairat on 16 December 2018. The Prime Minister will also be delivering a keynote address to the students of Rangsit University during the conferment ceremony. The conferment ceremony will be preceded by a Gala Dinner in honour of Prime Minister’s Working Visit hosted by the President of Rangsit University on 15 December 2018.
Prime Minister’s recent visit to Bangkok was from 24-25 October 2018 for his inaugural Official Visit to the country after being sworn in as the 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia. Malaysia and Thailand enjoy 61 years of close bilateral relations, with Thailand being one of the first twenty nations that established diplomatic relations with Malaysia in 1957. Both countries have strong cooperation in various sectors including trade and investment. Thailand is Malaysia’s fifth largest trading partner overall. Total bilateral trade between the two countries in 2017 was RM98.69 billion, an increase of 18.43% from 2016.
