WORKING VISIT OF THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA

TO THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will undertake a Working Visit to the Republic of Indonesia on 9 October 2018. This would be her first bilateral visit after being appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia on 21 May 2018. YAB Deputy Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Senator Dato' Marzuki Yahya as well as officials from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, and Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

 

During the visit, YAB Deputy Prime Minister is expected to pay a Courtesy Call on the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Jusuf Kalla and to be followed by a meeting with the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Her Excellency Yohana Susana Yembise. YAB Deputy Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) for a briefing on the current coordination work done by AHA Centre to send humanitarian assistance by ASEAN Member States for the victims of earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi. YAB Deputy Prime Minister will also be having sessions with Indonesian captains of industry and the Malaysian diaspora in Jakarta.

 

Indonesia is one of Malaysia’s closest friends and important neighbours. In 2017, total bilateral trade was recorded at RM72.63 billion (USD16.89 billion), an increase of 22% in comparison with 2016, making it Malaysia’s 7th largest trading partner globally and 3rd largest trading partner among ASEAN member countries after Singapore and Thailand.
