WORKING VISIT TO MALAYSIA BY

THE SECRETARY OF STATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF TUNISIA,

HE HATEM FERJANI

The Secretary of State for Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tunisia, HE Hatem Ferjani is undertaking a working visit to Malaysia from 27 February to 1 March 2018. The visit aims to strengthen the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Tunisia, including by boosting economic opportunities for the two countries. The last high-level visit by Tunisia to Malaysia was in 1997 by the Tunisian Prime Minister, HE Hamed El Karoui.

 

On 28 February 2018, HE Hatem Ferjani paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican. During the courtesy call, both sides exchanged views and experiences on democracy in Muslim countries, socio-economic developments, and regional issues of interest in ASEAN and North Africa.

 

The Tunisian delegation expressed their interest in Malaysia’s economic development, as well as our approach of moderation. Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican also shared further details on current initiatives undertaken by the Government, including the Economic Transformation Programme and the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) programme. HE Hatem Ferjani also conveyed the Government of the Republic of Tunisia’s interest to open its Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

 

During this visit by HE Hatem Ferjani, the Tunisian delegation will learn more about Malaysia’s experience and capabilities in the Islamic banking, agri-food and Halal industries, as well as the country’s significant achievements in information and communication technology. This visit also serves as a platform for Tunisian and Malaysian investors to explore untapped opportunities between the two countries.

 

HE Hatem Ferjani is currently on a regional tour to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand from 27 February to 3 March 2018. He is accompanied by a delegation of ten, which include officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tunisian businessmen.
