A 6.0 magnitude earthquake was reported around the eastern county of Hualien, about 165 km southeast of Taipei in Taiwan on 6 February 2018. According to the local authorities, the earthquake so far had claimed four (4) lives and 225 people injured while about 140 people are still unaccounted for.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to confirm that thus far, there are no reports of deaths or injuries involving Malaysians in the affected areas.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre (MFTC) in Taipei is closely monitoring the situation. Malaysians in need of consular assistance may contact the MFTC as follows:
