The diplomatic relations between Malaysia and The Holy See was formally established on 27 July 2011. Malaysia was the 179th country that established diplomatic relations with The Holy See. The establishment of diplomatic relations further enhances bilateral ties between Malaysia and The Holy See particularly in promoting global peace, understanding and moderation among religion through Interfaith Dialogue and education.
The Embassy of Malaysia to The Holy See was established on 21 March 2016 led by Ms. Clara Soon May Lynn, Charge d'Affaires a.i. until the arrival of His Excellency Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok on 18 April 2016. Subsequently, he presented his Credentials to His Holiness Francis Pope on 09 June 2016.
The Embassy of Malaysia to The Holy See has two Honorary Consuls, namely the Republic of Malta and Republic of Albania. His Excellency Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok is the first Malaysian resident Ambassador to The Holy See and the 83rd resident Ambassador accredited to The Holy See. He is also concurrently accredited to Republic of Malta and Republic of Albania.
