DETENTION OF A MALAYSIAN IN UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Consulate General in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is closely monitoring the case concerning Mr. Richard Lau Yi Lok, a Malaysian citizen who is being detained by the UAE authority since it was reported to the Consulate General in April this year.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Consulate General in Dubai will continue to monitor the development of the case, besides ensuring the wellbeing of Mr. Richard Lau and providing necessary consular assistance within its capacity stipulated by the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations 1963 while respecting the host country's domestic laws and processes. The wellbeing of Malaysians abroad is therefore and will always be a priority.
