KIDNAPPING OF FOUR MALAYSIANS OFF LIGITAN ISLAND

On 1 April 2016, four Malaysian crew members of Malaysian registered barge MV MASSIVE 6  were kidnapped by eight gunmen in a speedboat reportedly in the waters off Ligitan Island, Sabah while returning to Malaysia from the Philippines.

The four Malaysians have been identified as Wong Teck Kang, 31; Wong Hung Sing, 34; Wong Teck Chii, 29 and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21.

Malaysia strongly condemns the senseless and barbaric act. The Malaysian authorities including the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila and Consulate General in Davao City will work closely with the relevant agencies and authorities in the Philippines to assist in the ongoing investigation and working towards securing their release.

The Government of Malaysia also wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.
