YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia will be undertaking a Working Visit to Los Angeles, Sunnylands and San Francisco, United States of America from 11 to 17 February 2016. YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by his wife, YABhg Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor, YB Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Minister of International Trade and Industry and officials from the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

The highlight of the working visit is YAB Prime Minister’s participation at the U.S.-ASEAN Leaders Summit in Sunnylands, California, on 15 and 16 February 2016. During the 3rd ASEAN-U.S. Summit in Kuala Lumpur on 21 November 2015, the U.S. President, Barack Obama had invited all ASEAN Leaders to the U.S.-ASEAN Leaders Summit.

The U.S. – ASEAN Leaders Summit will comprise two sessions namely, promoting an innovative, entrepreneurial ASEAN Economic Community as well as protecting peace, prosperity, and security in the Asia-Pacific region.

The purpose of the U.S.-ASEAN Leaders Summit is to commemorate the elevation of ASEAN-U.S. dialogue relations to a strategic partnership and will serve as an ideal setting for ASEAN and the U.S. Leaders to engage in both formal and informal exchanges especially on ASEAN-U.S. cooperation as well as regional and international issues.

The ASEAN and the U.S. Leaders are expected to issue an outcome document highlighting the agreed principles between ASEAN and the U.S. in bringing forward the dialogue relations under the new strategic partnership.

During the visit, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak is also scheduled to meet with the Malaysian Diaspora and students in Los Angeles. In San Francisco, YAB Prime Minister will have a Roundtable Meeting with Fund Managers, meet with Captains of Industry, as well as visit to Apple Inc. and TESLA Motors.

Malaysia and the United States of America continue to enjoy close and cordial bilateral relations in key areas of cooperation including politics, economy, defence and security. Total bilateral trade for the period of January – November 2015 was valued at USD30.24 billion, an increase of 10.6% from the corresponding period in 2014, with exports valued at USD17.20 billion and imports valued at USD13.04 billion. The United States was the fourth largest trading partner for Malaysia in 2014.
