OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA, YAB DATO’ SRI ISMAIL SABRI YAAKOB TO THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKIYE 5-8 JULY 2022
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, will undertake his inaugural Official Visit to the Republic of Türkiye from 5 to 8
YAB Prime Minister is scheduled to hold a meeting with His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye. The first
meeting between the two leaders will provide them an opportunity to take stock of the state of Malaysia-Türkiye’s Joint Declaration on the
Framework for Strategic Cooperation launched in 2014 and explore new initiatives to further strengthen the long-standing and multifaceted
cooperation to greater heights.
High on the agenda during the Official Visit are discussions on bilateral collaboration, including in the fields of post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery;
defence and aerospace industry; as well as joint efforts to address regional and international issues of mutual concern.
YAB Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold a series of engagements with captains of industry in the efforts to strengthen economic cooperation
and open up new opportunities for Malaysian and Turkish business communities and private sectors.
In conjunction with the visit, Malaysia and Türkiye are expected to conclude several Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in the areas of education,
health, media and communications, healthcare, as well as Business-to-Business collaboration.
YAB Prime Minister will also have a session with Keluarga Malaysia in Istanbul during a luncheon on 5 July 2022.
YAB Prime Minister will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs YB Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah; Senior Minister of International Trade and
Industry YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali; Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Dato’ Sri Dr. Adham Baba; Minister at the Prime
Minister Department (Special Task) YB Datuk Dr. Haji Abd. Latiff Ahmad; Chief of Air Force Jeneral Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd Ashgar Khan Goriman
Khan; Chief of Army Jeneral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Zamrose Mohd Zain, and senior government officials.
This visit underscores the great importance Malaysia attaches its relations and partnership with Türkiye. In 2021, Türkiye was Malaysia’s 3rd
largest trading partner in the West Asia region, with bilateral trade valued at RM16.97 billion (USD4.09 billion) and implemented projects valued at
RM444.59 million (USD130.91 million).
