The main roles of the National Authority are to:
- serve as the national focal point for effective liaison with the OPCW and other States Parties to make sure Malaysia met its international obligations under the Convention
- serve as the focal point for the stakeholders such as the industries in Malaysia in any matters relating to the implementation of the Convention
- facilitate the international inspections conducted by International Inspectors from the OPCW for verification purposes, while at the same time protecting the rights of the industries
- prepare and forward Annual Declarations to the OPCW
- provide advance notification of transfers of Schedule 1 chemicals
- support Malaysia’s Delegation to the OPCW
- undertake domestic and international outreach activities to ensure awareness of the Convention’s objectives and obligations
- advise domestic stakeholders on declaration and licensing regulations, and on inspection modalities
