Roles and Functions PDF Print

The main roles of the National Authority are to:

  • serve as the national focal point for effective liaison with the OPCW and other States Parties to make sure Malaysia met its international obligations under the Convention
  • serve as the focal point for the stakeholders such as the industries in Malaysia in any matters relating to the implementation of the Convention
  • facilitate the international inspections conducted by International Inspectors from the OPCW for verification purposes, while at the same time protecting the rights of the industries
  • prepare and forward Annual Declarations to the OPCW
  • provide advance notification of transfers of Schedule 1 chemicals
  • support Malaysia’s Delegation to the OPCW
  • undertake domestic and international outreach activities to ensure awareness of the Convention’s objectives and obligations
  • advise domestic stakeholders on declaration and licensing regulations, and on inspection modalities
