‘ASEAN VILLAGE’ - NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL 2019
On 16 February 2019, the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra, in collaboration with PERWAKILAN Canberra and the Association of Malaysian Muslim Families (AMMF) participated in the ‘ASEAN Village’ at the National Multicultural Festival 2019 at Petrie Plaza, Canberra CBD.
As the current chair of the ASEAN Committee in Canberra, Malaysia coordinated the Opening Ceremony of ASEAN Village 2019, which was officiated by Mr. Brendan M. Smyth, Commissioner for International Engagement of ACT. Malaysia led the performances featuring two songs “Malaysiaku Sayang” and “Joget Budaya” by Ms. Rozita Rohaizad and a traditional dance “Joget Berhibur” by the in-house Gemalai Tari troupe. Indonesia, the Phillippines and Thailand completed the line-up of performances lasting almost an hour.
The Malaysian stall offered various Malaysian delicacies such as nasi lemak, chicken satay, roti canai, curry puff and ice-cream Malaysia. Several Malaysian products were also promoted at the stall such as musang king durian, Maggi instant noodles, tea, rending paste, soy sauce, batik sarong and bunga telur. In the evening, Mr. Chris Steel, Minister for Multicultural Affairs of ACT visited the Malaysian stall and sampled the delicious chicken satay.
