Consul-general praises Malaysian students for successful conference
MELBOURNE: The four-day Malaysian Students Summit of Australia (Masa) which ended last night, has been described as "a great credit to our students in Australia and our future leaders" by Malaysia's consul-general here Datuk Dr Mohd Rameez Yahaya. He noted that the event drew more than 800 young Malaysians to celebrate "our diversity, our strength as a nation".
"You're all 'anak perantau' - sons and daughters who've left our shores to better yourselves in Australia. It is my sincere hope you'll return to Malaysia after completing your studies to be part of the leadership to make us a high-income developed nation," he said.
Mohd Rameez backed Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin's call at the conference for a Malaysia devoid of political, racial and religious extremists and bigots, urging them to take the middle path. "Our racial backgrounds should never be a barrier for us to unite together as 1Malaysia," said the consul-general.
The Malaysian students had come for the conference from Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and Tasmania. The conference also included a career segment and sport events.
