Celebration of Heritage and Unity Fashion Event, 19 November 2020
Consulate General of Malaysia, Perth supported the Global Roaming Pilbara Foundation Ltd. of Western Australia (GRPF) in organizing the Celebration of Heritage and Unity fashion event on 19 November 2020 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Perth where Malaysian batik designs and the Western Australia aboriginal arts were presented to the public. The Malaysian premium batik fabrics produced by Malaysian artists were flown in from Malaysia by Mr. Diar Iskandar Sukor, Founder and Owner of Batik Village Malaysia exclusively to promote and showcase the distinctiveness of Malaysian batik heritage and arts in partnership with GRPF.
GRPF, a non-profit organisation has been working with the community of Roebourne, located in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, to provide young indigenous community to realise their full potential by building self-confidence through the art of modelling. The talented indigenous youth models who presented the Malaysian premium batik fabrics and Western Australia indigenous arts were from the Girls Group Programme, administered by GRPF.
The fashion event was successfully officiated by the Honourable Ken Wyatt AM MP, Minister for Indigenous Australians, representative from the Western Australia State Government, Consular Corps in Western Australia, professionals, Malaysian diaspora and friends of Malaysia in Western Australia among others.
The Consulate General of Malaysia, Perth is optimistic that the Celebration of Heritage and Unity event, with the attendance of approximately 150 guests, has created an excellent platform for the Perth multicultural community to get together and appreciate the rich cultural diversity reflected through the hand-made fabrics designed by Malaysian and Western Australian artists as well as in promoting people-to-people connections between the two nations.
