Celebration of the 54th Anniversary of ASEAN Day, 6 August 2021

On 6 August 2021, the ASEAN Working Group in Perth, Western Australia together with Ms. Sarah Hooper, the Director of Western Australia State Office (DFAT WA) celebrated the 54th Anniversary of ASEAN Day. The event was led by the Consul General of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam as Chair of the ASEAN working group in Western Australia with the presence of officials from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines.

ASEAN Day is celebrated annually to commemorate its establishment in 1967 and also aimed in promoting ASEAN's visibility to the relevant stakeholders. The ASEAN theme for this year is “We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper” that reflects ASEAN preparedness in the post COVID-19 pandemic era.

The goal of ASEAN is to accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region. With a combined population of more than 661 million people, and combined GDP amounting to USD3.2 trillion (2019), ASEAN is among the most dynamic regions and the third biggest economy in the world. ASEAN is projected to become the fourth biggest global economic powerhouse by 2050.
