Courtesy Call on the Shire of Katanning President, 23 April 2021

The Consul General paid a brief visit to the Town of Katanning on 23 April 2021. The visit, among others was to touch base with the Local Government of Katanning led by President Liz Guidera of the Shire, to learn about the town's economic activities and its development plan as well as to promote Malaysia as an attractive investment destination for the Western Australian businesses.

Katanning is located 300km south-east of Perth, in the 'heart' of the Great Southern. It is one of Australia’s most culturally diverse rural towns, with 42 nationalities in a population of more than 4,000 people. Muslims make up about 10 per cent of the town's population. It also has a reputation as a town that debunks the myth Islam is incompatible with Western values and where residents live in comparative harmony, regardless of religion or race.
