"SILAT MALAYSIA: A SOUTHEAST ASIAN LEGACY"
"SILAT MALAYSIA: A SOUTHEAST ASIAN LEGACY"
Saturday, 21 June, 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Rumah Malaysia
The Embassy of Malaysia, in collaboration with Seni Gayung Fatani Association of Malaysia (PSGFM) & Bongsu Silat Austria (Strategic Partner of the Embassy), successfully co-organised the above event, which involved brief introduction about Silat & impressive demonstration by Bongsu Silat students & trainers.
With the support of PERWAKILAN Vienna, the event was held in conjunction with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025 (hence, the title "Silat Malaysia: A Southeast Asian Legacy") & Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, while mindful of the inscription in 2019 of Pencak Silat under the Representative List of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The event was witnessed by over 150 guests comprising Ambassadors/Diplomatic Corps, Austrian officials & citizens, Friends of Malaysia & Malaysian diaspora, as well as the European Pencak Silat Federation affiliates (from Austria, France, The Netherlands & Switzerland).
"Silat Malaysia: A Southeast Asian Legacy" is yet another testament to the Embassy's long-standing commitment to promote the rich cultural heritage of Malaysia & Southeast Asia in Austria, Slovakia & across Europe.
Our sincere appreciation to Master Halim Hamit & Mr. Muhammad Ikmal Halim from PSGFM, as well as Mr. Boris Grkinic-Lee (CEO of Bongsu Silat), President of the Austrian Pencak Silat Association (PSVÖ) & Mr. Audran Le Guillou from Culture Silat France for their dedication, passion & commendable role.
