MALAYSIA PASSES ON CHAIRMANSHIP OF ASEAN COMMITTEE IN DHAKA TO MYANMAR, 5 AUGUST 2014
DHAKA– H.E. Madam Norlin Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh handed over the Chairmanship of the ASEAN Dhaka Committee (ADC) to Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, H.E. U Myo Myint Than during the 5th ADC Meeting on August, 5 at the Malaysian High Commissioner’s Official Residence.
The ADC was formally recognized by the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta in September 2013 to further strengthen the ASEAN-Bangladesh relations and promote the interest, awareness and understanding of ASEAN in Bangladesh. It is composed of the eight (8) ASEAN Member-States present in Bangladesh, namely the Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The ADC Chairmanship rotates every six months.
From September 2013 to June 2014, H.E. Madam Norlin, as the first Chair of ADC, led and coordinated the programmes and activities of the Committee.
Some of the highlights of the Malaysia’s Chairmanship include the first ASEAN Reception in Bangladesh jointly organised by eight (8) ASEAN Member-States in Bangladesh since the formal recognition of ADC by the ASEAN Secretariat attended by Ambassadors and High Commissioners of ASEAN Missions and high-level officials of Bangladesh. ASEAN Games were also organized where ASEAN Member States took turn to host golf, table tennis, bowling and badminton games which were participated by ASEAN Heads of Mission, Officials and their family members.
