YBhg. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Hon. Minister of International Trade and Industry Malaysia led an official visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh from 12-13 January 2015. The Honourable Minister was accompanied by YBhg. Dato’ Dzulkifli Mahmud, Deputy CEO of MATRADE and officials from MITI and MATRADE. The visit to Bangladesh was a follow up of an exchange of high level visits by the Hon. Prime Minister of Malaysia to Bangladesh in November 2013 followed by a reciprocal visit to Malaysia by the Hon. Prime Minister of Bangladesh in December 2014.
Several programmes had been arranged during the visit including a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Tofail Ahmed, Bangladesh Minister of Commerce and courtesy call on the Hon. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, roundtable meeting with the Captains of Industry from Malaysia and Bangladesh, networking sessions with Malaysian business community in Dhaka, dinner with Malaysian diaspora and one-to-one meetings with notable companies in Bangladesh.
Trade and Investment Mission to Bangladesh was an excellent platform for Malaysia to further enhance the existing bilateral ties with Bangladesh as well as to provide linkages and information to Bangladesh companies on trade and investment opportunities in Malaysia. It has also allowed Malaysian businessmen and investors to explore investment potentials and identify future collaboration with notable companies in Bangladesh. Some of the possible areas that Malaysian companies and investors can explore among others are telecommunication, healthcare, power generation, banking and education.
