KIDNAPPING OF FOUR MALAYSIANS OFF LIGITAN ISLAND
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia called in H.E. Jose Eduardo E. Malaya, Ambassador of the Philippines to Malaysia today, April 13, 2016 to reiterate the request for assistance from the Government of the Philippines in working towards securing the early release of the four Malaysians abducted by gunmen on 1 April 2016.
The four abducted Malaysians are Wong Teck Kang, 31; Wong Hung Sing, 34; Wong Teck Chii, 29 and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21. The same request was made by the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila to the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines on 6 April 2016. Earlier, on 4 April 2016, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Honourable Dato’ Sri Anifah Hj. Aman sought the cooperation of the Philippine Government through the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines.
Malaysia underlined the utmost importance of ensuring the safety of the four Malaysians and reassured that it would work closely with the Government of the Philippines towards securing their release.
The Ambassador assured Malaysia that the Government of the Philippines is undertaking all the necessary efforts to locate the four Malaysians.
