Official visit of YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs to Kuwait

OFFICIAL VISIT OF 

 

YB DATO’ SRI ANIFAH AMAN, MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

TO KUWAIT ON 21 - 23 MARCH 2016

 

YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia will undertake an official visit to Kuwait on 21 – 23 March 2016 at the invitation of His Excellency Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait. This will be YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman’s first official visit to Kuwait, following his working visits on 27-29 May 2015 and on 24-25 August 2014.

 

YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman will be accompanied by his spouse, YBhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Abdul Samad, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.

 

In terms of bilateral trade between both countries, total bilateral trade in 2015 amounted to USD1.02 billion, comprising of total export of USD218 million, and import of USD798.7 million. Kuwait is an important trading partner for Malaysia in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as Kuwait is Malaysia’s fourth largest trading partner among the GCC countries, after the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

 

The official visit is expected to be marked by the momentous occasion of the signing of the Trade Agreement between Malaysia and Kuwait by YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman and His Excellency Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

 

During the official visit, YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman is scheduled to have an audience with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of Kuwait, and pay a courtesy call on His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, at the Bayan Palace.

 

YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Aman will also pay a courtesy call on His Excellency Marzouq Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait, and a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait. After the meeting, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait will host YB Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and the Malaysian delegation to lunch.

 

The official visit is aimed at re-affirming and further strengthening the warm and close bilateral relations between Malaysia and Kuwait. Both sides are expected to take stock of, as well as expand the scope and substance of bilateral relations in various fields such as trade, investment, oil, energy, education, capacity building and tourism. Both sides are also expected to discuss regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
