Activities and Event
The ASEAN Embassies in Brasilia celebrated the 4O” Anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN by organizing several activities to commemorate the occasion. The following events were held:
4-7 July 2007 - TYT Duta Besar together with other ASEAN Ambassadors in Brasilia, made a working visit to Rio Grande do Sul. The visit was an effort by ASEAN Ambassadors to enhance the existing good relations between ASEAN
and Brazil, especially with the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
28 July 2007 - The Embassy was the coordinator of the ASEAN Family Day that was held at the Chancery. The event was held to promote goodwill and friendship between the ASEAN Embassies and the local communities of the ASEAN Embassies in Brasilia. It was a fun day with a lot of games, prizes and other activities. The HBS and LRS also sang “Jalur Gemilang” and “Keranamu Malaysia” during the Embassy’s presentation.
29 July 2007 - An ASEAN bowling competition was held. The Embassy’s HBS and LRS who participated managed to take away three of the prizes in the competition.
4 August 2007 - An ASEAN Bazaar was held at Legiao de Boa Vontade, Brasilia. Various Malaysian handicrafts such as batik products and other small gifts such as key chains, badges were put on sale. The batik items were especially popular and sold the most. Proceeds from the bazaar was donated to a Brazilian charitable organization. The Embassy also sold food such as nasi lemak, currypuff and popia for the locals to have a taste of Malaysian cuisine.
14 August 2007 - The ASEAN events that were organized by the ASEAN Embassies in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of ASEAN ended with an ASEAN Night that was held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Indonesia. On the morning of 14 August, an ASEAN Golf Tournament was also held. Among the guests who attended the ASEAN night were Ambassadors from the foreign embassies in Brasilia as well as officials from the various ministries including those from the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil. The guest of honour was Ambassador Roberto Jauaribe, Sub-secretarial General Political II and Ambassador Regina Dunlop, Head of Department of Asia Oceania from the Ministry of External Relations who were each given a special plaque. There were also door prizes for the guests. The Embassy contributed 3 door prizes as well as food for the guests at the event.
