ASEAN Night 2007

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was created on 8 August 1067, with the purpose to accelerate the economic growth of its composing ten countries, in addition to promoting peace and stability in the region.  The organization has a joint forum with Japan and a cooperation agreement with the European Union.  Durig the first conference of the association, in February 1976, it was signed a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, with the description of the principles that should be followed by all countries adhering to it, like mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, equality, territorial integrity and national identity.  Each nation can guide itself without external interference or coercion, and there should be peaceful coexistence.
 
Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Laos and Brunei Darussalam integrate the association with seat and Secretariat located in Jakarta, Indonesia.  Last Wednesday, Ambassadors of Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam assembled Brazilian friends and the Diplomatic Corps to commemorate the 40 years of creation of ASEAN, in the official residence of Indonesia.
