PERWAKILAN Brasilia Visits Stone Carving Workshop, 8 May 2010

Members of PERWAKILAN Brasilia made a short study visit to the one and only stone carving workshop located in Nucleo Bandeirante, a satellite town outside the city on Saturday 8 May 2010.

The proprietor of the workshop Mr. Paulo Cesar, often referred to as the ´birdman´, has been in the stone carving business since he was 19 years old.

The various types of stone and crystal (Agate; Rose, Blue and Green Quartz, Onyx; Amazonite; Jasper; Tourmaline) are cleaned from its raw form before being carved into various items. A popular product is figurines of animals including birds. The object or figurine is polished and mounted.

Mr Cesar is able to produce 30 small birds in a day, while the bigger ones may take 10-15 days. The birds for example are normally placed on a crystal stand with amethysts.
