8TH WORLD WATER FORUM, 18-23 MARCH 2018
The 8th World Water Forum took place in Brasilia, Brazil from 18 – 23 March 2018 and it was the first time that the forum was taking place in the Southern Hemisphere.
The World Water Forum is the largest global event on water and is organized by the World Water Council, an international organization that brings together stakeholders and has as its mission "to raise awareness, build political commitments and trigger actions on related critical issues to water to facilitate its conservation, protection, development, planning, management and efficient use, in all dimensions, based on environmental sustainability, for the benefit of all life on earth.” The World Water Forum is organized in nine themes namely Climate, Urban, Sharing, People, Ecosystems, Capacity, Development, Finance and Governance.
Malaysia was represented by Ir. Hj. Abdullah Isnin, Deputy Director General from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, NRE Malaysia. On 22 March 2018, he participated as a panelist in the Special Session - “Crisis management: Strategies For River Basin in Americas and Asia Pacific”, together with other speakers from Brazil, Australia, Japan and the US.
